Samurai Sportswear is proud to announce its involvement in the newest rugby series in the world. Global Rapid Rugby’s 2019 showcase spectacular is launched on Friday, March 22nd – and Samurai has partnered with one of the teams competing in this inaugural series.

The South China Tigers, spearheaded by the Hong Kong Rugby Union, held their official team launch today (March 5th) with players and coaches wearing their custom Samurai leisurewear. They will compete in their new Samurai custom Iconix matchday jersey and Performex ™ kit when they take to the field at the end of this month.

Samurai’s Managing Director Terry Sands said: “We are delighted to become the official kit and merchandise partner of the South China Tigers.

“Samurai has a strong presence in Asia and we hope that the Global Rapid Rugby series becomes a big success within world rugby.”

This year’s series consists of 14 games at six venues across Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. South China Tigers will play at the Aberdeen Sports Ground, Hong Kong, and will be made up largely of the Hong Kong Rugby Union 15s side although they will be joined by Fiji Olympic gold medallist Samisoni Viriviri, Englishman Tom Varndell and Chinese players Ma Chong and Liu Junkui. Confirmed fixtures will see them travel to Perth to play Western Force on March 29th before their first home game on Sunday, April 21st against Asia Pacific Dragons. The return game against the Dragons, in Singapore, is on Sunday, April 28th and Tigers then host Western Force on Sunday, May 12th. Other teams competing in the series include Kagifa Samoa and Fijian Latui. Event organisers are promising a more dynamic version of the game with rule changes designed to promote more of a running game and to keep the ball in play for longer.
