LEICESTER TIGERS HEAD TO PREMIERSHIP FINAL

LEICESTER TIGERS HEAD TO PREMIERSHIP FINAL

After a dramatic semi-final against Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers are heading to Twickenham on Saturday 18th June for the season's final of the Gallagher Premiership.

Played at Tigers home ground, the semi-final of the Gallagher Premiership saw teams Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints pitted against one another for their chance to make it to the final. The play-off took place under the excited gaze of the biggest ever crowd of more than 22,000 spectators at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, a club record for a Gallagher Premiership semi-final.

The game started off with a tense first half, with Tigers’ strong defensive effort holding out against Saints’ immediate attack, up until the moment Saints’ won a penalty, gaining the first 3 points of the game. Not taking the defeat though, Tigers’ hit back, repeatedly attacking their opponents defence until they’re rewarded with a penalty at the breakdown. This constant suspenseful game of back and forth continues until half-time is called, revealing the level scoreboard of 6 - 6.

The second half kicks off with Saints taking the lead with the first try of the match and sees them continuously applying pressure whilst Tigers defence pushes to keep them out, but Tigers haven’t given up yet. Patiently waiting for their opening, Tigers’ snatch a try and conversion tipping the scoreboard in their favour.

Tigers and Saints play off one another, each team hungry for their well deserved victory. The scoreboard refused to settle or bend to either team’s will, and only reflected the spectators state of excited anticipation. Until finally, Tigers unrelenting assault on Saints saw Tigers pushing forward up until the last minute was called - revealing their triumphant final score of 27 - 14 in this climatic semi-final.

Regarded as one of the three top-level professional rugby leagues, especially in the Northern and Western territories, the Gallagher Premiership is a notorious and prestigious title for any rugby club to hold. Originating as the Courage League in 1987, the Leicester team has remained a prominent name in the competition. The Premiership is the top division of the English Rugby Union League, and its clubs are able to qualify for the European Rugby Champions Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Now, with the chance to claim the title, Leicester will head to Twickenham on Saturday 18th June to face rivals Saracens. The last time these two elite clubs faced off in the Premiership final of the 2010-11 season, Saracens emerged victorious. Tigers are now in with a chance to take back that lost victory, and this epic final game of the season will decide who will be the next Gallagher Premiership Rugby Champions.

We eagerly await that final game, and wish the best of luck to the Leicester Tigers team.

Next stop, Twickenham.
