Kenya Rugby Union
Kenya’s national first XV currently find themselves within the top 25 rugby union sides in the IRB World Rankings. They play home matches at the RFUEA Grounds, located in Nairobi, which has a capacity of 6,000 and also hosts the annual “Safari Sevens” tournament. The most recent tournament saw Samurai’s invitational side – Samurai 7s meet Kenya 7s in the final.
The game of rugby sevens finds itself becoming increasingly popular within the African nation. At the time of writing, Kenya are currently 12th in terms of being the highest points scorers of all-time in the HSBC World Sevens Series. In April 2016, Kenya were crowned Champions of the Singapore Sevens in front of 45,000 at the National Stadium. It turned out to be a truly memorable weekend with Kenya simply outplaying Olympic Champions Fiji in the first-half of the final, scoring 20 unanswered points before the interval. Collins Injera proved to be the star of the weekend, securing a dramatic late drop-goal to overcome Argentina 15-12 in the semi-final and scoring 2 tries in the final to help Kenya lift their first Cup title. Injera also currently leads the way in terms of all-time top try scorers in the HSBC World Sevens Series, with a remarkable 235 tries scored to date.
