Samurai Represented At Sevens World Cup

Good luck to both Tunisia (men) and The Netherlands (ladies) who are representing the Samurai brand at the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 finals being held in Dubai later this week (March 5th-7th). This is the first time that Samurai has had sponsored teams in any of the rugby World Cup Finals and the event will no doubt prove to be a fantastic experience for both of our sides.

Tunisia fought through the African qualifiers and has landed pool games against England, Kenya and Hong Kong. Meanwhile the Dutch ladies face Australia, France and China in their pool.

We will report on the results and performances in the next Newsletter - but good luck from the entire Samurai team.

Samurai Old Boys Win At First Attempt

Samurai Old Boys Win At First Attempt

ULR Samurai, were able to fulfil another first during February as they fielded their first ever veterans team, taking part in the Latvia snow tens in the city of Riga. ULR samurai have now fielded teams at under 21s, ladies 7s, International senior XVS, 10s and Sevens and now veterans - quite an impressive feat for an invitation rugby club. The ULR Samurai profile continues to be enhanced.

The Latvian’s were delighted at being able to meet and play against the Samurai team and equally the ULR Samurai team were pleased to be able to promote rugby in Eastern Europe. ULR Samurai were able to win the tournament running out 12 - 10 winners in a very physical encounter against the Latvian club Champions.

The team are pictured above prior to their first match, with British Lion Alan Bateman pictured 4th from the left.

Vigo RFC Delighted With Their New Kit

VIgo RFC 1st XV and 2nd XV teams recently showed off their new Samurai playing Kit. Vigo 1st XV took on Medway in Kent League One and Vigo 2nd XV played Sevenoaks 3rds in Mid Kent A Merit Table League.

On the match day a Sponsors Lunch was organised and the official hand over of the shirts was done by representatives of the two new Sponsors, the 1st. XV major sponsor being Viridor Waste Management Ltd. and the 2nd XV major sponsor being M.J. Twort Roofing.

The teams were then changed into their new Samurai strips for team photos and then onto their respective games.

Tony Hill of Vigo RFC said, "both teams (Vigo 1st and 2nd team) were very pleased with the new kit but unfortunately it turned out not to be so lucky for us on the day, the 1st XV losing 12-32 to a Medway side who look destined to be crowned Kent 1 Champions at the end of the season and the 2nd XV losing 7-71 to the Sevenoaks side".

Although recent results have not gone to plan for the Vigo side, Tony Hill was more than complimentary about the Samurai Kit, "subsequent results have been mixed but the kit is still very popular with all of the club members and more items have now been ordered, for both playing/training and social wear, and we as a club are looking for, and indeed expecting, a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Samurai".

Twickenham In Sight For Lancashire U20's

Twickenham In Sight For Lancashire U20's

Samurai kit supplied Lancashire's dream of playing at Twickenham lives on thanks to the efforts of 20 lads who wore their shirts with pride and proved they do have the desire to win against Yorkshire. The day started with 5 cry offs, from the selected team and with Phillip Whyte injured in the warm up. Lancashire had to re shuffle their back line, as well, an urgent call went to Burnley's Gavin Gregory who arrived just before K.O. (Still 2 replacements down).

Lancashire won the toss and opted to play up the slight slope and against the wind. Yorkshire as expected came out with all guns blazing and from series of forward drives saw the home team within yards of the red rose try line. Words alone cannot describe the "Courage" of the Lancashire defensive line, as wave after wave, of attacks were thwarted by fierce and hard tackling keeping the white rose side out. Throughout the match there were twist, turns and drama around every corner.

With Lancashire in the lead by 16 points to 20 the last eight minutes saw Yorkshire hammer the thin red line, they declined a Penalty in front of the post, they attacked wide and they opted for scrummages and still they could not reach the white wash.
At the death one final attack saw the tackle of the match, if not the Championship. Gavin Gregory, the last minute replacement, hit the wingman forcing him into touch within an inch of the Lancashire line.  The referee blowing for no side. A great Lancashire victory in Yorkshire, never before achieved at this age Group. Samurai is delighted to be associated with Lancashire U20's and hope they can achieve their goal of playing at Twickenham. To read the full match report click here.

Samurai Underskinz 142 Long sleeve shaped Tee

Samurai Underskinz 142

Wearing an under garment during the big match or game is becoming a true fashion trend amongst all sportsmen and women. Samurai hold a huge level of stock for all Underskinz 142 Long sleeve shaped Tee's (shown above) in various colours, but if you have it customised by Samurai, you have a choice of 5 colours for the performance fabric and then 9 colours for the stitch detail and you can also have you name or club name printed on the left sleeve.

Unlike other manufacturers Samurai Underskinz has been developed to do two operations. Instead of needing to purchase one garment for winter use and one for summer you can purchase just one garment to effectively do two jobs. Underskinz 142 warms and cools different areas of the body precisely where needed. The energy your body would normally expend perspiring or shivering in order to regain its optimal temperature of  37deg C is thus available as an energy reserve for increased performance. Underskinz cools, warms and dries where it should, not just where it can.

Made from 84% polytec, 16% elastane and features that include a high neck, overlock stitch detail and comfort fit, the Underskinz Long sleeve shaped Tee uses Samurai technologically advanced “PerformeX” which allows the sweat and moisture to move from the body to the outside of the garment. It also has Compression qualities to improve Blood circulation by applying varying degrees of pressure, which improves circulation and helps to supply muscles with optimal levels of oxygen and nutrients, providing the conditions required for peak performance and recovery.

Whatever your sport or leisure activity, indoors or out, Underskinz provides the serious sports enthusiast with a quality baselayer at an affordable price.

The Underskinz range also includes short sleeve tops, support shorts, thermapants, vests and protective leggings.
