Samurai Represented At Sevens World Cup |
Good luck to both Tunisia (men) and The Netherlands (ladies) who are representing the Samurai brand at the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 finals being held in Dubai later this week (March 5th-7th). This is the first time that Samurai has had sponsored teams in any of the rugby World Cup Finals and the event will no doubt prove to be a fantastic experience for both of our sides.
Tunisia fought through the African qualifiers and has landed pool games against England, Kenya and Hong Kong. Meanwhile the Dutch ladies face Australia, France and China in their pool.
We will report on the results and performances in the next Newsletter - but good luck from the entire Samurai team. |

Samurai Old Boys Win At First Attempt |
ULR Samurai, were able to fulfil another first during February as they fielded their first ever veterans team, taking part in the Latvia snow tens in the city of Riga. ULR samurai have now fielded teams at under 21s, ladies 7s, International senior XVS, 10s and Sevens and now veterans - quite an impressive feat for an invitation rugby club. The ULR Samurai profile continues to be enhanced.
The Latvian’s were delighted at being able to meet and play against the Samurai team and equally the ULR Samurai team were pleased to be able to promote rugby in Eastern Europe. ULR Samurai were able to win the tournament running out 12 - 10 winners in a very physical encounter against the Latvian club Champions.
The team are pictured above prior to their first match, with British Lion Alan Bateman pictured 4th from the left.

Tony Hill of Vigo RFC said, "both teams (Vigo 1st and 2nd team) were very pleased with the new kit but unfortunately it turned out not to be so lucky for us on the day, the 1st XV losing 12-32 to a Medway side who look destined to be crowned Kent 1 Champions at the end of the season and the 2nd XV losing 7-71 to the Sevenoaks side".
Although recent results have not gone to plan for the Vigo side, Tony Hill was more than complimentary about the Samurai Kit, "subsequent results have been mixed but the kit is still very popular with all of the club members and more items have now been ordered, for both playing/training and social wear, and we as a club are looking for, and indeed expecting, a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Samurai".
